I am excited to showcase this amazing new logo for The Beauty Gazette, which will be an online beauty newspaper/magazine as well as take you through a small glimpse into my design process. Heather came to Carrylove Designs wanting a concept that was clean, modern with a neutral color.
As one of the first steps in my design process I have you create a mood board from Pinterest, so I can get a better sense of your style and what you’d like to see. You don’t need to take the time to pin 100 different items. As you can see below, Heather simply pinned five designs she liked and notated why she liked them. As a designer, this helps me immensely.
After looking at her Pinterest board and sketching out designs, I presented these two design concepts to her. The first concept gives a throwback feel to an old printed newspaper with a modern update. The second design concept is more modern and whimsical.
After we make any revisions, nail down the design concept my client is excited about the final design we move into the color palette options. Heather bought our mini-custom design package, so she received two initial concepts and two color palette options to choose from. Heather decided against the hairdryer because it would be about makeup beauty as well and we agreed the hairdryer was limiting.
Yay – now a can present you with your final design and give you a little taste of how it all works together! I provide a mini-brand board that goes over the basic elements of your final logo.
This entire mini-logo process took about one week to complete but time varies depending on client responses. You can purchase a mini-logo design package here. This package is the bare basics and is for a small business just starting out that doesn’t need a lot of brand elements and isn’t profitable yet. Once your business is more mature and you’re ready to add more elements such as an alternate or sub-mark, website design, or any marketing material I give returning clients a 30% discount.
If you have an established business and want a full branding experience, you’d want to check out these packages which are more in-depth. This package includes design consultations, branding questionnaires and I research competitors, so we make sure you stand out amongst the crowd. These packages will involve way more detail and usually take about three weeks to complete depending on response times.
Have you hired a graphic designer before – what did you like and not like about their processes?

Thanks Greta!
I am with @ashleyservis:disqus I prefer option 2!
I work with graphic designers all the time and as long as you give them very specific directions as to what you want (or give them free reign), it’ll be a smooth process.
Yes, that’s a good rule of thumb.
