As 2015 comes to a close, I gladly welcome 2016 even though the past year was an exciting time in my life. I moved from Houston to Austin, got married to my best friend, and found out we are having a baby all within the last twelve months. Talk about whirlwind – I’m exhausted just thinking about it. Now with a baby making its debut in May 2016; it’s time to make goals and get serious. Here are my 2016 goals!
In college, I was taught about the art of goal making – S.M.A.R.T Goals:
S – specific
M – measurable
A – attainable
R – relevant
T- time-oriented
I broke my goals up into four different categories: Personal, work, spiritual, and family.
Personal:
Be back to my pre-pregnancy weight (132 lbs) by December 31st, 2016.
Seeing as Baby Shuman is due in late May that gives me seven months to drop whatever weight I gain.
Work:
Be featured on three other blogs by July 4th, 2016.
I am already ahead of the game seeing as I will be a guest contributor to His Endless Love. I want to grow my blog outreach as well as make new relationships with like-minded women.
Spiritual:
Begin a Bible study that I can take notes on and share with my readers at least once a month.
I want to grow my Biblical knowledge and at the same time share it with my readers.
Family (family goals are ones that my husband and I share and work on together):
Pay off all of our medical bills by December 31, 2016.
Currently, we have roughly $1,400 in medical bills from the pregnancy because I had a scare in my 5th week and we made a trip to the Emergency Room at midnight. A trip that was well worth the hefty price tag.
Finances:
Have at a minimum $3,000 in my savings by June 1, 2016.
This goal is in the spirit of preparation for Baby Shuman being born and me being out of work for 4-6 weeks. (Yes, my husband and I keep our finances separately even though I know Dave Ramsey is highly against it. It’s how we were both raised, and it genuinely works for us. However, there are no money secrets between the two of us. I know how much he makes and what’s in my bank account and vice versa.)
Pay off my two credit cards by June 1st, 2016.
I have $1,176.17 on one and $700.00 on the other for a total of $1876.17. To achieve this goal, I have to contribute roughly $312.00 monthly depending on interest added each month.
All right, I have just been brutally honest with my goals, money, and even weight. Hopefully these will all be achievements by the end of 2016. I wrote this post to keep me accountable. I will be more likely to achieve these goals knowing they are public for everyone to see. What are your 2016 goals? Do you even believe in New Year Resolutions?

I love when bloggers are genuinely honest with their readers! All of these goals are absolutely attainable – I believe in you 😉
Aw, thanks Mattie.
I’m cheering you on! I actually love these goals and I feel like they’ll have a great outcome!
Thanks for being a cheerleader!
AWESOME GOALS! I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!
Thanks Annie!
Those are some great SMART goals!
Thanks Tayler.
You can definitely do these things! I like the S.M.A.R.T thing, a way of setting goals. I don’t believe I’ve seen that before.
It’s something my professor taught us in college. I’ve seen it other places too but it really helps me set realistic goals.
Be kind to yours elf if you don’t lose that baby weight. I thought I would for sure lose all of it by nine months post partum, but breastfeeding actually caused me to retain weight. I guess my point is to not see it as a failure if you don’t hit that 132 mark by 7 months. ????
Thanks for the words of wisdom Karin!
